Here's some good news that I found when reading the FT today. As you may have read in my previous post that Spain relies on its tourism industry heavily due to the fact that it has such vast amounts of coastline, it seems that tourists are beginning to flock in their millions to Spain again.
Spain fell into prolonged recession like we almost did in 2008. And for the first time since then hotels are beginning to experience what it is like to be fully booked again. The Eden Mar hotel in the Southeast of Spain was fully booked for the Easter weekend and as a result has increases it's number of staff in time for the tourist season in Summer this year.

The hotel manager, Maria Teresa Gomez says that medium-term bookings (ie bookings being made now for Summer 2014) are up by 30-40% on last year, which is a much needed increase. It's the quickest rate of growth since the beginning of the recession nearly 6 years ago. The hotel industry employs an estimated 30% of Spanish people, so this is good news for the country all round.
The reason why so many people are beginning to go back to Spain is mainly because of the British. We have been invading Spain for nearly 50 years now, and we only slowed down because the pound became rather weak against the Euro and it was beginning to get expensive for the average English tourist in Spain. With the pound now at the peak of its strength over the last 5 years, confidence has been restored and people are seeking cheaper hotels and refreshments on their holiday so are flocking back to Spain.
Another reason that Spain is becoming popular again may be due to the fact that people are being careful after the recession and are spending their disposable income a lot more wisely, so are looking for sunny, cheap and cheerful holiday destinations this year as opposed to blowing the money on Caribbean holidays and the like. The increasing popularity of booking holidays online and using promotional codes is also likely to be adding to the appeal that Spain brings us Brits.
